An axial-flow fan works on different principals than a centrifugal fan. In an axial, the flow of air is parallel to the shaft where as a centrifugal fan works by throwing air away from it blades. In a centrifugal fan, the blades can be straight, backward, or forward curved and the blade wheel is mounted in housings.
Mechanically, backward curved blades are more efficient than the forward curved blades, but forward curved blades are more self- cleaning and should be used in applications with high dust concentration. Though, a centrifugal fan is preferred over an axial fan where high airflow rates and high static pressures are required, later is best suited for spot cooling and managing thermal level of the machines.
With an increase in clock speed and power consumption of processors, graphic cards, RAM, and other computer components, there has also been an upsurge in heat production in the systems due to the normal functioning of these devices.
